Pest Control in Ashford, Kent

The town of Ashford like many others has it’s fair share of call outs for wasps each summer. These are found in many different situations and sizes, depending on when they are discovered. Over the years I have become adept at dealing with them regardless of where found.

One dealt with in Ashford during the last summer season showed part of the nest structure exposed at eaves level, the bulk of the nest was located in the attic itself in the eaves. The entrance is also predominantly the exit area and powder placed here is picked up on the back of the wasps taken this way into the nest where it kills the queen wasp and contaminates the nest.

A nest will die off overnight, sometimes a second dose is needed, particularly if wind or rain has removed the powder too early.

Some wasps make a visible structure of a nest in a shrub or bush, these can be sprayed with a liquid chemical that kills on contact, the nest can then be cut away and bagged up.

Wasps cause a lot of panic and I’m often told they have just arrived when in fact they have been developing since April but are not noticed till the start of July.

The treatment of wasps should not be considered as a DIY proposition, things can quickly go wrong for an amateur. Although always aggressive to some degree a wasp nest will vary in it’s response from one situation to another.

Nests in shrubs are fairly easily dealt with as all can be seen. Nests in the ground are also straightforward unless a badger has dug away at them previously.

After many years of treating thousands of wasp nests I can weigh up fairly quickly the size of the nest, how quickly it appears to be reacting and how long I have to safely get my chemical where it needs to be. This has been a hard won experience.
